Sun Microsystems Romania, the power to evolve fearlessly
One of the worldwide best known IT solution provider – Sun Microsystems Inc. – had its 2008 last high management meeting with the Romanian Media on December 16. The event was meant to bring the company's vision and strategy to the public eye, and to point out its future perspective in terms of market evolution. The keynote speaker of the Press Briefing was Mr Denis Heraud, Senior Vice President, Emerging Markets. His managerial position aims at finding and reaching the best results in the field in countries such as India, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Eastern Europe countries, Latin America. As Sun is investing 2 billion USD in research and development, such bold initiative was to be taken under the light of strong future perspectives, based on the significant potential and scale of the emerging markets. With an overall 12% growth rate on the emerging markets – and a specific 40% in Romania – the 2009 seems to be really promising. The General Manager of the Sun Microsystems Business Development Office in Romania, Mr Mihai Dumitrescu, explained that since 2004, when the company entered the country, it has been evolving in partnerships, having at the moment 7 official partners such as Softwin, Romsys, Eta2U. The perspectives for 2009 include a Romanian based own company with the strategical aim to encounter public sectors such as: Government, Administration, Education, keeping alive the interest for the private companies – of which 45% is represented by telecommunications. The financial crisis would not touch Sun Microsystems, as Mr Dumitrescu specified, but it would represent a strong development opportunity. On Romanian grounds, the company's portofolio includes systems (servers/storage/networking), software, data base/storage – with the highest MySQL sales share on a global basis, due to the maturity of the telecommunications field. The foundations for Sun's future rely on comprehensive open portofolio delivering choice, with essential technology optimized for the network: developer environment (NetBeans, the Apache Foundation software), database/storage (MySQL, ZFS), platform application infrastructure (Java, Project Glassfish), virtualization (xVM, Virtual Box), operating system (Solaris, Open Solaris), systems (Sun Microsystems, Fujitsu, IBM, DELL, HP), microprocessor (Open Sparc, Intel). Sun's regional and global growth strategy is supported by exciting, market-changing product releases, such as: Open Storage 7000, Sparc Enterprise T5440 Server, and a dedicated Sun Volume Portofolio (X86 Rack &smp; Blade, CMT Blades, Open Source NAS Storage) with the goal to get to 10% market share by 2011.
